"WE WOULD LIKE IF WE MAY TO TAKE YOU ON A STRANGE JOURNEY"….

Pascal Gamboni lead singer of Swiss band Cléan, explains the 'Strange Journey' that led to their move to the West Country.

We felt that in Switzerland we had little chance of taking our music any further forward. We always saw England, as being the Capital of music the decision was easy.

The Strange Journey began in July of last year when they left the snow-clad alpine mountains and arrived in Bristol. We had also considered London and Manchester as possible bases, we are pleased we chose Bristol, the local indie scene is perfect, maybe we wanted to see what the town of Portishead was like, I dunno.

We went back to Switzerland and we played two sell out concerts over the Christmas period. We are well known there our first release is eagerly awaited.

Categorising music is always difficult; we basically are experimental pop, perhaps slightly trip-hop influences that lean towards
Portishead and maybe The Sugarcubes but with a defined commercial flavour. We all like different music DJ Gion is into hip hop, Guitarist, Severin and me like the Doors, Pink Floyd. Bassist, Phillipp loves the Motorcycle and Dues, Andras the drummer from Hungary likes Keziah Jones.

We spent most of December in the studio working with
Matt Sampson on our first album (working title "More or Less the Truth") which will come out early summer and of course we have our first single, 'Game' out 6 weeks before, maybe late April.

'Game' is just one part of a 4 track EP and we included 'Unics' because we wanted to have a song that it is in our native language,
Romansch. To the Swiss people back home this song is very important and the Swiss radio stations. There are two other tracks that narrowly missed going on the album 'Walking' is a very experimental track. 'Call My' is the other, its about five minutes long, nice moody tune with some great breaks.

Meanwhile we are just happy playing gigs gradually adding to our fan base, happy recording and looking forward to the British summer,
Ashton Court and enjoying the English tea.
