Moqsha - 'Moqsha the Destroyer vs. Dubzilla' EP

Sounding like the name of some B-listed Japanese movie engaging the talents of various latex creatures, Moqsha the Destroyer Vs. Dubzilla is the debut EP from Bristol-based Moqsha.

Despite the obvious dark undercurrent trawling through this EP, opening track, Super Massive Black Holes is a truly audacious piece of work. Fusing a keyboard sound that would sit comfortably with the New Romantics of the eighties yet spliced with a deep heavy bass line and an indie guitar sound, Moqsha are clearly residing in a world of their own.

This is not difficult to comprehend as lead singer Vicky intones: 'All my life I have been waiting for something', sounding like the loneliest person on the planet and teetering on the edge of an abyss.

Such an impression is further compounded with the impressive title track. A keyboard-driven song with the vocals stepping in and out of shadows that again utilises the deep bass sounds Moqsha are becoming known for.

Elsewhere, Omnivore applies a deft touch to remix Super Massive Black Holes with less restraint and sparser use of vocals that help to provide a looser edge and different perspective of the Moqsha sound.

With the inclusion of live favourite Inspector Morse (part 1 and 2) - a song of considerable epic proportions - and an OPE remix of Moqsha the Destroyer Vs. Dubzilla, Moqsha, after their long absence, have returned with an eclectic batch of songs that help to wet the appetite for their imminent long player on Sugar Shack Records.
