Teeth-Rattling Metalcore Debut From The Valleys.
You can spend ages pissing about with structures and breakdowns but there's nothing as effective
as a short, sharp shock. In just five tracks on their debut EP, As Silence Falls have landed a
haymaker. With Killswitch - like brutality the Welsh bruisers explode into 'There's no Axe in
Accident' with malicious intent and you're on your backside before you know it. Flitting between
the bludgeon of KsE and the epic visions of Coheed And
Cambria, 'ASF' rattles with urgency and menace. Even when the pace drops you're barely left time to catch your breath before the next
aural assault begins. If this is the sound of silence then we fucking love it.

The brilliantly titled There's no Axe in Accident starts like every song
should: like a series of hammer blows to the head. It then drops into funeral
for a friend melodic territory, which is a bit of a disappointment, as their
best hour was in 2003, making this four years late. The heavy percussion
artillery refuses to let up though, which is good news. while it certainly
can't make up for the lack of originality, it certainly powers the songs to
the sort of runaway oil tanker level you want. The melodies strike like
lightening, and show real attention to the kind of hooks that grab
attention. The brilliant break in Where Tragedy Lies shows where the bands
strengths lie. pure aggression and instrument abuse. I include the voicebox
in that abuse. The war inside begins like thrash era Metallica but continues
to plough that modern metal furrow that Killswitch Engage have a habit of
dominating right now. As is always the case, the moment the band slows down,
the adrenaline that caries you happily along drains away leaving an empty,
slightly sick feeling like you've had too much of a good thing, like ice
cream. A bit late to the party they may be, but for a debut recording, sturdy
and will make for good support blagging. It remains to be seen whether
there's another level to what they do, but this will keep young metal fiends
happy when bring me the horizon is just that bit too intense"

South Wales troop As Silence Falls might well have arrived too late. Sure, they have paid their dues climbing up the metal ladder – gigging around the
country and playing with such local scene stars as Funeral and Hondo Maclean – but the band’s fushion of meat with massive melody has ‘US
metalcore’ scrawlied all over it. Think All That Remains, Killswitch Engage ,As I Lay Dying, It Dies Today and Trivium – certainly done extremely professionally – but most
certainly done before.

For a Welsh supergroup, As Silence Falls sure sound American. The quintet are apparently local celebrities in the Bridgend scene, but from the clipped growls
and SoCal metalcore melodies of ‘There’s No Axe In Accident’ to the harmonised guitars
and marketable angst of ‘A Shadow of Greed’, there’s nothing here to
suggest that any of them would think twice about selling their mothers to make it big across the pond. That’s not going to happen though, no matter how many
family members end up on eBay, because all of this has been heard before. A thousand time already. And it’s sounded much better too. If these boys are going
to make it any further they have to be way more original. Dude.
